Elson is an IT and corporate lawyer, business leader, educator, speaker and computer programmer with over a decade of cumulative experience in law, education and IT.

Practice

Elson specializes in Information Technology Law and has provided legal services to leading IT institutions. He is a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Computer Science of the University of the Philippines – Diliman where he teaches computer programming, computer architecture, operating systems and cyber laws. He is likewise an Asst. Professor Lecturer at the Commercial Law Department of De La Salle University where he is a graduate thesis advisor and taught partnership, corporation and labor laws. He is a certified DLSU Online Course Asst. Professor.

Concurrent to these, he is also the Vice President and the Legal Counsel of a corporate group comprised of an investment bank, a financial institution and a securities brokerage firm where he is a business leader specializing in corporate and finance laws.

Experience

Prior to the above current engagements, Elson was the Head of Legal and Compliance of a shared services division of an international financial institution where he managed both its legal and audit teams as well as performed risk management and information security functions. He was a Legal Officer of the Philippine Stock Exchange where he provided legal services in securities listing, trade and due diligence. His initial work as lawyer was with a Chambers Global top-rated law firm where he was trained in corporation and civil laws.

Elson is a long-time educator. In addition to teaching in UP Diliman and DLSU, he previously taught computer courses in UP Manila, Kalayaan Colleges and Informatics Computer Institute and taxation law in Mapúa Institute of Technology. He has been invited to speak in various IT symposia and fora. His paper on the distinct intellectual creations in software has been accepted for presentation before the 10th Philippine Computing Science Congress in Davao City. Just before taking up law, he was part of programmer teams which developed software including a Linux kernel-based neural network intrusion detection system and an online auction transaction system.
