JJ is a member of the Philippine Internet Commerce Society (PICS) and was actively involved in the lobbying efforts for the passage of the eCommerce Act (Republic Act No. 8792). He drafted the eCommerce Act's Implementing Rules and Regulations under the supervision and control of an inter-agency task force committee co-chaired by the Department of Trade & Industry, Department of Budget and Management of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas. He is also a member of the UP College of Law Faculty where he teaches, among others, a course of Cyberspace Law. After spending his first years in the practice involved in judicial and quasi-judicial litigation, he focused on corporate practice and has been involved in complex projects such as financing transactions for power projects, mergers and acquisitions, banking, real estate, entertainment, and intellectual property, among others. He has represented local and foreign clients in, among others, corporate, project finance, securities, foreign investment, technology, telecommunications, Internet and eCommerce projects.

Professional Summary:
After graduating 5th in her class in 1993, Owens started her legal career in diverse areas. She obtained her initial legal training in a top Manila law firm where she concentrated in corporate law. Subsequently, she focused her career in election law and politics by assisting in the successful campaign of a Philippine Senator, and later on, in public service by working as legal counsel for the State University. She returned to private practice by working as in-house counsel for a leading broadcasting company in the Philippines and in Asia, and was involved in various legal transactions involving entertainment and broadcasting. She also headed the Legal Department of a group of companies belonging to a prominent figure in the business community and was involved in different corporate consolidations, reorganizations, mergers and acquisitions and back-door listing. Prior to joining the Firm, Owens was Legal Counsel at Far East Bank and Trust Company (now Bank of the Philippine Islands) and the General Counsel of Banco Santander Philippines, Inc. Her fields of expertise are banking, finance, insurance, securities, taxation and general corporate law.

After being admitted to the Philippine Bar in 1995, Armee immediately started her own private practice with her areas of concentration in corporate law and taxation. At the same time, she established a number of successful business ventures of her own in the areas of food & restaurant franchising and water supply & purification. This gave her the unique opportunity to understand not only the legal intricacies of establishing and operating a business but its practical aspects as well.
